Plant Modernization CompletedOctober 16, 2009
Stone Bridge Iron and Steel has recently completed a plant modernization where all material conveying systems were upsized and upgraded, a new Controlled Automation ABL-100 angle fabrication line replaced an older generation one, a new 40” Cambco cambering machine was built and commissioned, and the plant was put “on-grid” with power retiring several large Cat diesel fired generators which had powered the plant for over a decade. The slowdown in the economy has allowed us to catch our breath and take care of some needed modernization of the plant after a strong 2005-2008 performance.” Commented Brian Carmer, the company’s President. The modernization has been completed just in time for the Global Foundries project in Malta, where Stone Bridge is supplying all of the steel for the CUB – Central Utilities Building, and is partnered with FabArc, Oxford, Alabama, for the 10,000 ton FAB – Main Fabrication Building. “A steady stream of trucks and railcars have been arriving for the last 30 days and the yard is at capacity.” Remarked Jim Morris, purchasing manager. Len Squires, Facilities Manager, stated, “The decision to move on-grid was an important step in facilitating future growth.” Over the last 5 years Stone Bridge has either replaced or completely rebuilt nearly every major piece of its long list of fabrication equipment. This commitment to modernization has kept Stone Bridge in the forefront of the steel fabrication industry and maintains the highest level of quality in our products.
